Pure Femininity
The
antique lace scarf and blue vase could have easily graced the dresser of a young
woman during spring in the deep south. One can almost smell the intense aroma
of orange blossoms wafting through the open window. The deep pink of the
Hibiscus flowers echoes the feminine theme of the painting.

Gardenias and Old Lace
This was the first major
still life I ever tackled. The items are significant
and have strong sentimental value. The tea cup is from my mother's china. As
a child I always loved it. The china pattern depicts gardenias.
Growing up as a child, I had never seen a gardenia. When we moved to
our home here, we inherited two vintage gardenia bushes. The perfume and
candle makers are wise to use the gardenia's scent. It is intoxicating. The
lace bureau scarf was from my parents bedroom. The small cut crystal vase
was the final touch to this lovely arrangement.
Cocoa Village Store

One of Brevard County
Florida's jewels is the tiny restored downtown of Cocoa Village. Old
buildings have been refurbished. Galleries, gift & clothing shops abound.
Everything from fine dining to side walk cafes provide the visitor with a
wide range of choices for dining. As an architecture buff, Cocoa Village is
a feast of design. Preserving the old buildings
gives the area the real feel of a hometown shopping district. Cocoa Village
sponsors numerous events through out the year and for the visitor to the
area, it is a must see.
Galdo Alley
To
visit this tiny town in the mountains southeast of
Naples is to step back in time. Vintage buildings line streets barely wide
enough for one vehicle to pass. No traffic lights, no stop signs and,
usually, no cars! The pace goes from slow to dead
stop. Neighbors sit outside and visit. Flowers grace windowsills and small
gardens and the clean, crisp mountain air is sweet.
Galdo Alley II
How
would you like to live on a street with no vehicular traffic? You can here. The
"street" is about 8 feet wide and dead ends into the house at the end of the
lane. The beautiful old buildings are reminders that time passes at a far
different pace then we as Americans are accustomed. The old is not torn down to
make room for something newer, bigger and or "better".
In Galdo, some things are just better left as is.
Morning Devotions

High in the mountain of Italy,
tiny towns are tucked away, seemingly untouched by modern society. Streets
are winding and narrow, barely room for a car (and a very small one at that)
to negotiate. Neighbors sit on front steps and visit. Tucked away from the
street, in a private courtyard, an elderly woman spends time with her Lord.

Breaking the Stroke Barrier
For
an artist, the hardest thing can be putting paint on that beautiful, pristine
white canvas! "Breaking the Stroke Barrier" was painted for the Postcards from
Paradise Show at the Maitland Art Center in Maitland, FL. The center has not
only an impressive gallery which hosts rotating exhibits, but also an impressive
array of art classes for both adults and children. (Painting:
8" x 12")
Cheesehead in Paradise
Located
only 30 miles from Key West (FL) and approximately 1,800
miles from Lambeau Field, a dedicated Cheesehead show
his allegiance to his home team in Titletown.
(Painting: 11" x 14")
Pretty Maids All in a Row
Key
West is known for its funky atmosphere. Many of the
homes there reflect the town's whimsical nature with homes painted in vivid
colors and landscaped with brilliant tropical foliage. One thing
that can never be said about the architecture or the
town of Key West as a whole, is that it is bland and boring.
(Painting 10.5" x 29.5")
Save The Last Dance For Me
This painting was part of the
Brevard Watercolor Society's "Watercolours of Olde Brevard" Show and took
First Place in the Architectural Division. The
scene is what used to be Clarke's Corner in what was known at the time as
Indian River City, Florida. The building was a multi purpose
facility housing the dance hall, a realtor's office, the terminal for
the bus service to Orlando, a tea room and an ice cream parlor.
Unfortunately, the structure no longer remains.

Summer Time at the Shore
Growing
up in South Jersey the summer was a time to pack up the family and head to the
shore. Cape May at the tip of New Jersey is a charming ocean side town. It does
not have the casinos of Atlantic City or the boardwalk of Wildwood. Cape May
does have a large collection of restored Victorian homes that take the visitor
back in time to a simply life. Cape May's quiet charm make it a magnet for those
who want to enjoy the benefits of a seaside vacation without the hustle and
bustle of the rest of the shore communities. (Painting 17" x
26")
The Check's in the Mail
On
my drive home from work there used to be a store that sold Mexican pottery and
painted furniture. Their mailbox was in the process of being swallowed up by
this cactus plant. It was one of those things I just had to paint. I wonder what
they thought when they saw me photographing their mailbox! Waiting for a check
that is "in the mail" can be like having to reach into a mailbox surrounded by
cactus needles.... a very sticky situation.
The Escort Shuttle
The
Escort portrays the first night landing of a space shuttle at the Kennedy Space
Center in Florida. This painting was part of the 41st Anniversary Of The Kennedy
Space Center Show held at the Main Gallery at the Visitor Complex at the Space
Center. Living so close to the Center allows me to walk outside to my back yard
and watch the launches. (Painting: 14.5" x 22")
Tomatoes
On
a trip to the Farmer's Market in Winter Park, FL these tomatoes caught my eye.
What attracted me was the contrast of the colors. The tomatoes are a bright red
orange complimented by the green blue cardboard
container. Growing up in South Jersey, tomatoes were an integral part of the
economy. We had two major ketchup makers in the town and during the summer the
tomato truck would roll in from the fields. The whole downtown area would be
blanketed with the aroma of tomato sauce.
Bad News Travels Fast
Bad news always seems to
travel faster than good news. The viewer is left to decide whether one of
the three characters in the paintings received bad news or is one of them
the "bad news". The painting was originally going to be titled "Standing in
the Shadows of Love" an old Motown song sung by the Four Tops. The painting
is of a place in Universal Studios, Florida. If you visit the movie side of
the park, see if you can spot the location. Happy hunting.

Clay Pot Orchid
It's
delicate appearance gives the orchid a look of vulnerability. Reputed to be
difficult to grow, that depends on who you talk to. My experience has been less
than fruitful, but, I still find these flowers totally captivating.
(Painting Size: 11"x14")
White Orchids
Orchids are some of the most intriguing flowers
that exist. Though seemingly fragile, the orchid is
quite sturdy and can be easy to grow (I have yet to learn that part of the
lesson). Orchids bring back memories of corsages at high school proms and
special events. Once hooked, it is hard to escape their
charms. (Painting Size: 8.5"x11")
Red Yellow Orchid
Jewels of the foliage world, orchids can be dainty and
subtle or in-your-face with
riotous color. The strong hues caught my eye and
called out for me to paint them. What else could I do but
acquiesce?
Green Orchids
Are
orchids really this green? Well,
maybe not. A little artistic license was taken here. This painting is done
on Yupo plastic film. Yupo is primarily used to
commercial signage but the effects with watercolor are stunning (and fun to do).
The colors can be completely unpredictable when they
interact with the plastic surface making the process an exciting experience.
Red Orchid
This
is another painting from the series of Orchids done on Yupo plastic film. Yupo
has a very bright white finish and the colors maintain a real brilliance to them.
This enhances the reds and pinks in the flower. The Yupo surface is slick and
causes the paint to react in unusual patterns, making the process of painting
the picture and its final outcome truly unpredictable.
Two Tone Orchid
Some
orchids are quiet and demure and others are in your face with vibrant color. Two
Tone Orchid shows the later. The flower's color screams for your attention and
gets it!
Iris #2
As
a child growing up I was never really fond of the
Iris. It wasn't until much later, when I had a home of my own, that to my
surprise, when spring came the Iris arrived. Now I live in an area of the
country that is way too warm to grow them. My solution is to paint them!
Red Bromeliad

Curvaceous leaves that go
from brilliant yellow to fiery red form the bloom of this bromeliad. Short
and compact, this blossom could be hid away among the foliage if you weren't
looking for it. Testimony to the fact that sometimes beautify hides in the
least obvious places.
