Clay Pot Orchid

 It's
delicate appearance gives the orchid a look of vulnerability. Reputed to be
difficult to grow, that depends on who you talk to. My experience has been less
than fruitful, but, I still find these flowers totally captivating.

White Orchids

Orchids are some of the most intriguing flowers
that exist. Though seemingly fragile, the orchid is
quite sturdy and can be easy to grow (I have yet to learn that part of the
lesson). Orchids bring back memories of corsages at high school proms and
special events. Once hooked, it is hard to escape their
charms. (Painting Size: 8.5"x11")
Red Yellow Orchid

Jewels of the foliage world, orchids can be dainty and
subtle or in-your-face with
riotous color. The strong hues caught my eye and
called out for me to paint them. What else could I do but
acquiesce?
Green Orchids

 Are
orchids really this green? Well,
maybe not. A little artistic license was taken here. This painting is done
on Yupo plastic film. Yupo is primarily used to
commercial signage but the effects with watercolor are stunning (and fun to do).
The colors can be completely unpredictable when they
interact with the plastic surface making the process an exciting experience.
Large Yellow Orchids

 These
yellow orchids remind me of genteel ladies. The flower edges are ruffled and the
plants themselves had a dignified air about them. When in bloom, these plants
are like sunshine in a pot.
Red Orchid

 This
is another painting from the series of Orchids done on Yupo plastic film. Yupo
has a very bright white finish and the colors maintain a real brilliance to them.
This enhances the reds and pinks in the flower. The Yupo surface is slick and
causes the paint to react in unusual patterns, making the process of painting
the picture and its final outcome truly unpredictable.
Two Tone Orchid

 Some
orchids are quiet and demure and others are in your face with vibrant color. Two
Tone Orchid shows the later. The flower's color screams for your attention and
gets it!

If there is gold at
the end of the rainbow, then every rainbow ends at an orchid! These
magnificent blossoms are truly a treasure in a pot!

 Part
of the Orchids on Yupo series. What caught my eye here was the transition of
colors. In the world of art, red and green are called complimentary colors. They
are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. When side by side they
produce impact, but when the colors mix they become grey. This is avoided here
by introducing yellow which blends with both red and green without making grey.
Yellow acts as a bridge between the two dominant colors and keeps their hue
pure. This gives the flower intense visual impact.
