Cocoa Village Store

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

One of Brevard County Florida's jewels is the tiny restored downtown of Cocoa Village. Old buildings have been refurbished. Galleries, gift & clothing shops abound. Everything from fine dining to side walk cafes provide the visitor with a wide range of choices for dining. As an architecture buff, Cocoa Village is a feast of design. Preserving the old buildings gives the area the real feel of a hometown shopping district. Cocoa Village sponsors numerous events through out the year and for the visitor to the area, it is a must see.

Galdo Alley

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

To visit this tiny town in the mountains southeast of Naples is to step back in time. Vintage buildings line streets barely wide enough for one vehicle to pass. No traffic lights, no stop signs and, usually, no cars! The pace goes from slow to dead stop. Neighbors sit outside and visit. Flowers grace windowsills and small gardens and the clean, crisp mountain air is sweet.

Galdo Alley II

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

How would you like to live on a street with no vehicular traffic? You can here. The "street" is about 8 feet wide and dead ends into the house at the end of the lane. The beautiful old buildings are reminders that time passes at a far different pace then we as Americans are accustomed. The old is not torn down to make room for something newer, bigger and or "better". In Galdo, some things are just better left as is.

Morning Devotions

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

High in the mountains of Italy, tiny towns are tucked away, seemingly untouched by modern society. Streets are winding and narrow, barely room for a car (and a very small one at that) to negotiate. Neighbors sit on front steps and visit. Tucked away from the street, in a private courtyard, an elderly woman spends time with her Lord. (Painting: 14.5" x 22")

Breaking the Stroke Barrier

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

For an artist, the hardest thing can be putting paint on that beautiful, pristine white canvas! "Breaking the Stroke Barrier" was painted for the Postcards from Paradise Show at the Maitland Art Center in Maitland, FL. The center has not only an impressive gallery which hosts rotating exhibits, but also an impressive array of art classes for both adults and children. (Painting: 8" x 12")

Cheesehead in Paradise

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

Located only 30 miles from Key West (FL) and approximately 1,800 miles from Lambeau Field, a dedicated Cheesehead show his allegiance to his home team in Titletown. (Painting: 11" x 14")

Pretty Maids All in a Row

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

Key West is known for its funky atmosphere. Many of the homes there reflect the town's whimsical nature with homes painted in vivid colors and landscaped with brilliant tropical foliage. One thing that can never be said about the architecture or the town of Key West as a whole, is that it is bland and boring. (Painting 10.5" x 29.5")

Save The Last Dance For Me

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

This painting was part of the Brevard Watercolor Society's "Watercolours of Olde Brevard" Show and took First Place in the Architectural Division. The scene is what used to be Clarke's Corner in what was known at the time as Indian River City, Florida. The building was a multi purpose facility housing the dance hall, a realtor's office, the terminal for the bus service to Orlando, a tea room and an ice cream parlor. Unfortunately, the structure no longer remains. (Painting: 14" x 22")

Summer Time at the Shore

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

Growing up in South Jersey the summer was a time to pack up the family and head to the shore. Cape May at the tip of New Jersey is a charming ocean side town. It does not have the casinos of Atlantic City or the boardwalk of Wildwood. Cape May does have a large collection of restored Victorian homes that take the visitor back in time to a simply life. Cape May's quiet charm make it a magnet for those who want to enjoy the benefits of a seaside vacation without the hustle and bustle of the rest of the shore communities. (Painting 17" x 26")

Savannah Sunrise

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

Sultry Savannah sizzles in the heat of summer. Majestic old homes have been carefully restored and this renewal is creeping into the surrounding areas. The city is laid out with a series squares that provide park like settings for residents and visitors. These provide shady spots to cool off and relax. On an early morning walk we came upon this house. I was struck by the strong cast shadows from the morning sun. It was one of those "I have to paint this" moments and so Savannah Sunrise was born.

We'll Keep the Light on For You!

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

Pre 9/11/01 the Kennedy Space Center (FL) used to open up the grounds every other year to Brevard County residents. It was an opportunity to drive around the grounds and see sights that normally were off-limits. One of these sites is this historic lighthouse. There are efforts now underway to raise money for restoring the old building. The fact that it is on the grounds of the Space Center makes visiting the lighthouse difficult. Shown in the background is the fading vapor trail of a Shuttle launch. The old lighthouse stands as the beacon to welcome our space travelers home.

I Was Here First

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

...and he was, too! This painting was from a photograph taken in Celebration, FL. (the town that the Disney Company built that resembles older era, hometown neighborhoods). Driving through it is a trip back in time. In this situation, the bird had the bench and rather than disturb him, we found another place to sit.

Old Barn

(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)

Surrounded by the glow of autumn the old bard prepares for one more winter. Every years it leans a little more as the strong winter winds blow around and through it. Still it provides shelter for the animals and equipment that live and  work there.
